While I Remember Free Audiobook Download by Becky Grubbs Ritter
This is a well written novel about the difficulties of the 1930's with the stock market crash and the depression. The author does a great job of developing characters that we get to know, like them, and care about.
The narrator of While I Remember is Becky Grubbs Ritter, who writes and speaks about how she dealt with her own unique family history. Her family history includes being an adopted child of a white mother and black father, which was uncommon at the time, as well as being raised by her maternal grandparents in rural Kentucky. Ritter describes her family members as very loving people who were able to overcome their struggles through the love they had for each other.
Throughout history, there have been many marvelous stories passed down through a series of oral traditions. One such story that is currently being told is the tale of a woman who has an affair with a Russian soldier in Poland during WWII. As she relays the story to her daughter, along with the rest of her family, they are able to learn more about herself and what life was like before World War II.
This audiobook is a work of fiction about a love story. The narrator is in her forties and tells the story from when she was thirty-five years old. She meets a guy through an online dating website and they fall in love quickly. They get married, have two kids, buy their dream home and the marriage falls apart. It's a sad story but it has a very positive ending that I won't spoil.
While I Remember is a memoir of Grubbs's life during the time of the American Civil War. She recounts her story about when she and her family were forced to leave their home in Kentucky for Missouri and later, Illinois. They experienced all the hardships of being across the Mississippi River from civilization during a time of war.
This audiobook tells the story of a woman who is forced to decide how to deal with the grief of losing her husband, her best friend and father of her five children. The protagonist dies in a car crash while on a joyride to see his kids at college. There's lashing out in anger, there's desperate attempts at trying to be normal, there's drinking and eating too much and there are moments when you find yourself feeling more sympathetic towards the author. Most importantly it shows that life goes on.
