Helen Keller was a woman who could not see or hear, but she overcame these obstacles with her amazing mind and spirit. She started out as a young girl living in Alabama, where she lived with her parents and sister on a farm. As the story goes on we learn what it is like to be both deaf and blind. In this audiobook we experience Helen Keller's childhood through a series of letters from her teacher, Anne Sullivan.
Helen Keller was a writer, thinker, and teacher. She is best known for being the author of "The Story of My Life." Helen was born on June 27th in 1880. Her parents had difficulty conceiving a child so they adopted one. That child was Helen Keller. At the age of 18 months, her father became very ill and passed away. In 1890, her mother remarried. Out of the four people that surrounded her at the time, three were deaf-blind and Helen learned to communicate with them through American Sign Language, blinking or touching their hands or using gestures.
Many have argued that The Story of My Life-Helen Keller is the best audiobook ever written. It was not until Helen Keller realized that there were no other audiobooks that she felt confident enough to go public with her work. With this in mind, it is easy to see why this book has been so popular over the years.
"When I was a child, I wanted to be a little dog," Helen Keller said. "The idea that I might be able to live in the mind of someone else and see through their eyes." She adored books and reading aloud. As an elementary school student, she came across a book written by herself, "Helen Keller's First Book", which was published when she was only three-years-old.
