The pictures are of a man who appears to be a serial killer who brutally murdered her mother with a railroad spike. The pictures were taken by the police and placed on display at a local museum. Rachel is mesmerized by the man in the photos and can't stop thinking about him. Eventually, she meets an ex-cop who had his own run-ins with this killer as well as made friends with him before he died. Together, they try to solve the mystery of who killed Rachel's mom and saved others from being killed too.
