Zaslow, who grew up in Iowa, tells the story of his love for an old friend and how that friendship has grown over time as both have moved to California, NY and finally Boston. The Girls from Ames is a beautifully written memoir that follows the lives of two very different women-one born and raised in small town Iowa and one in New York City. These women meet in college and become friends, but they take very different paths. Over forty years, they travel continents and see each other every now and then, only to reconnect on a deeper level as they realize how far apart their lives have taken them.
'Andrea Gallo' narrates. The Girls from Ames is a story of women and a forty-year friendship by Jeffrey Zaslow. It explores how two young women met in college and how that friendship has never gone away. Each chapter is told by one of the girls, sharing their thoughts and feelings about each other.
This audiobook starts off with the story of Jeffrey Zaslow, a journalist who is interviewing Shirley and Betty. These two women have been friends since they were 8 years old, and now at the age of 60 they are still close friends. It was a point of interest to me that they are still so close in their later years. You hear their stories throughout the book of how they met, became friends, and had different opinions on things like boys, work, and other important things in their lives. They both go through some life events but always stay strong as friends even though they tell you in this book that it has not always been easy for them and that there have been times where one or the other would feel slighted by the other
