The Curse of Lono Free Audiobook Download by Hunter S. Thompson
I would have to say that the best audiobook I've ever listened to is The Curse of Lono by Hunter S. Thompson which is narrated by Malcolm Hillgartner. The story is about a man who goes crazy in a cave by himself for 14 days. All of the sounds and sights seem to be haunting him. Malcom does a really good job with this audiobook, especially considering he's read it hundreds of times in his career.
In this audiobook, author Hunter S. Thompson tells a good tale of his time in Hawaii and Las Vegas. He takes on many different personas, sometimes changing in mid-sentence. His inspiration for the book was a trip to Hawaii with friends where they did "the Lono" and danced around swinging machetes at each other while chanting "Hail to the chief."
The Curse of Lono is a story that takes place in the 20th century. This is the story of a man who becomes cursed on his 62nd birthday and his journey to rid himself of this curse.
The original source materials of the book were compiled into a documentary that won an Academy Award in 1969. The story follows the protagonist Lono, who was the first person buried on a Hawaiian island after death, as he wanders around trying to find his way back to life.
Hunter S. Thompson's classic novel is a chilling adventure of the American psyche in the 1970s. Despite its subtitle, it is not a work of fiction; it's based on real events and encapsulates a period of time we now refer to as America's Dark Age.
The Curse of Lono is a collection of essays based on the same event. It was written by Hunter S. Thompson and published in 1969. This audiobook download features narration from Malcolm Hillgartner.
