A politician and his lover had been brutally killed and their bodies left to rot in the woods. The small town of Dalgliesh was rife with suspicion and paranoia, but no one was ever charged or convicted of the crime. Parched journalist Martin Canning arrives on the scene to research an article about a supposed haunted forest, looking for an explanation for the ghost-like figure he spotted roaming through the trees. But he soon finds himself lured into a dark tale of power, lust, love, and revenge that stretches back decades before he was born...
