Along the way, they meet some other people with similar problems as they struggle to survive.

Ms. Pat is a little white rabbit who changes personalities with every season, but one thing stays the same, her love for food. She grows up surrounded by the smells of bread and butter and becomes a bread-baker herself. When the humans come to take away all their flowers because of war, she literally bites off more than she can chew when she takes on an extra job as a baker at The Ideal Bread Company and ends up getting fired in order to continue bread-making in peace.

Ms. Pat is a teacher and she is also a single mother of five children. One day, in the school parking lot, her car gets broken into and all her money is taken. In order to pay the bills and support herself and her family, she goes to work at a local factory. Ms. Pat struggles with mental illness as well as physical ailments. She has seizures because of her diabetes as well as high blood pressure.
