If you enjoy tales of princesses, such as Cinderella, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty, Linda Rodriguez Mcrobbie's book, Princesses Behaving Badly: Real Stories from History Without the Fairy-Tale Endings, is a must read. It is filled with stories of real life princesses who have hijacked their kingdoms through greed and self-centeredness. These include Queen Giovanna of Naplelle who ruled her country for 50 years with an iron fist, Anna Vyleta, the daughter of Ivan the Terrible and his second wife Sophia, who took control of Russia at age six and ruled until she died in 1682; Marie Antoinette Dauphinne de France who had a watchmaker build
My favorite part about this book was hearing about the many stories of princesses who had real problems. They weren't always royalty, but they were still women and had interesting things to say. They did war accounts, peasant accounts, merchant accounts, and court accounts. Mostly because the princesses' stories are what are interesting.
