Freeing Jesus: Rediscovering Jesus as Friend, Teacher, Savior, Lord, Way, and Presence Free Audiobook Download by Diana Butler Bass
I was familiar with the title but had never read this book, so I decided to listen to the audiobook. It gave me a lot of new insight into how I can better connect with God and learn from Him. Diana Butler Bass has a way of expressing her thoughts without making them sound preachy. She shares how as Christians we're not set up for intimacy with God because we don't know who He is. To make such an intimate connection requires us to turn away from our culture and our past in order for us to see Jesus for who He really is - our Friend, Teacher, Savior, Lord, Way, and Presence.
In this book, author Diana Butler Bass offers a fresh perspective on Christian faith as Jesus in his relationships with people. The Gospel of John depicts Jesus as friend and teacher who invites followers to come closer to him. The Christian religion has often been defined exclusively by its call to conversion, but This book is a reminder of how the Christian faith has shaped itself around the idea that we are all friends with God.
Diana Butler Bass's (DTB) book Freeing Jesus: Rediscovering Jesus as Friend, Teacher, Savior, Lord, Way, and Presence was written to encourage readers to explore the life of Jesus more deeply. It is a book that focuses on how our spiritual relationship with Jesus can change our lives today.
The book is about 'Diana's' journey from the confines of a typical Evangelical upbringing in the 1970s through her college years, and how it culminated in a search for ancient wisdom that would free her from the gospel as preached by her parents. She found meaning by turning to the Gospel of Thomas, and to Jesus' own words on his way of teaching.
Freeing Jesus is a book written by Diana Butler Bass. The author tells the story of Jesus Freeing him from the oppression of religion and freeing him to live the way he wanted to live. The transformation that Jesus brought was one of depth, not just in his understanding and love for others but in himself as well. The book starts with a detailed look at what Jesus' life looked like before his execution up until his death and resurrection. It goes into great detail about his teachings, relationships, and experiences. The author's goal is to make God more alive for people today by translating scripture into freedom for us to be who God created us to be.
Diana Butler Bass, a Christian theologian and author, argues in her book Freeing Jesus that Jesus has been too easy for us to take for granted and that we have too often taken him for granted. The Jesus who appears in the scriptures is a figure whose words are not always findable because of their frequency. This Christ we have "rediscovered" is the one who was always with us and through whom we can experience true freedom in God's love.
