You Were Never Really Here (Movie Tie-In) Free Audiobook Download by Jonathan Ames

In the 1960s, Joe's wife and daughter are kidnapped from a bodega. He then goes on a hunt to find them and bring them back home where they belong. Joe is a seasoned military operative with PTSD. As he tries to find this girl, he has to go through flashbacks of his time in Iraq as well as dealing with the kidnappers who aren't exactly giving up without a fight. The main point of view of the book is told through the eyes of an older Joe while he narrates what happened in his life before now.

You Were Never Really Here (Movie Tie-In) by Jonathan Ames is the story of Joe, a veteran war photographer and hired gun who specializes in hunting down missing persons and delivering "maximum emotional impact." When Joe agrees to kidnapper Simon's impossible offer: a missing girl found alive, he begins a frantic, dangerous search for her through the dark and twisted underbelly of New York City. Staying alive becomes his only concern while he fights against his own nature.

The book begins with Joe descending from a helicopter into the woods where he has been offered a job to rescue someone from the sex trade. When he arrives, his target is nowhere to be found and he starts to search for her in a bid for revenge. But after being shot, Joe wakes up in a hospital on the other side of the country, his memories gone. He begins to piece together what happened and how he ended up as a kidnap-for-ransom survivor as he tries to find out who set him up and why.

The film tells the story of Joe Bang as he tries to save a teenage girl from captivity. In order to do so, he must navigate a world of people for whom something is wrong with them and then come up against the challenge of becoming a father himself.

Jonathan Ames is one of my favorite authors, so I was excited to discover that he had a new book named You Were Never Really Here.

You Were Never Really Here is a story of emotional survival, with protagonist Joe as a former undercover operative who only has days to rescue young female abductee Jane Doe before the secret she's carrying destroys his career and his life.
