Working Stiff: Two Years, 262 Bodies, and the Making of a Medical Examiner Free Audiobook Download by Judy Melinek Md,T. J. Mitchell
This is a true story of two men, T.J. Mitchell and Judy Melinek who have worked together for 22 years and have understandingly learned to work with each other as a team. They somehow manage to find the humanity in all their work and they share their hard-earned wisdom by writing this book.
Tanya Eby has a booming voice and one clear message: Judy Melinek's memoir is a call to arms for people to take care of themselves. "We love our bodies," she exclaims, "and we are going to take care of them." Melinek's life story is an interesting one. She was the youngest woman ever appointed as a full-time medical examiner (a position that requires no doctorate) in San Francisco and saw 262 bodies in her two years on the job. Her work led her down paths she had never expected such as having to deal with AIDS patients, illegal immigrant children, domestic violence victims, and even recovering cold cases. Although this book was written before I picked it up,
Judy Melinek MD T. J. Mitchell is a groundbreaking medical examiner who has been featured in the New York Times, on 60 Minutes, and on the ABC's 20/20. This book shares her journey from a young doctor to the tough job of working at one of the busiest morgues in America. It reveals what it takes to be a crime scene investigator, it gives personal insight into how she developed her career path and her personal life as well, and it also offers advice for new recruits about what to expect along their route.
"I want to tell you that this is not a job for the fainthearted. It's easy sometimes, working among all these dead bodies, pulling them apart and looking at them. But it's the hardest thing I've ever done."
Judy Melinek is a forensic specialist in Los Angeles. Her job involves the examination and autopsy of bodies, she needs to be able to look at everything with her eyes untrained. Working Stiff: Two Years, 262 Bodies, and the Making of a Medical Examiner does just that by taking you through her life as an ME from when she starts out to when she has become an experienced doctor in her field. It is a book about how one woman's work helps make our world safer for everyone.
In this book, author Judy Melinek shares her personal story of the work that she has done as a forensic pathologist. This is not your typical book as it is not written in a way that most people are used to reading. It is told in first-person present tense, which makes it much more interesting. The narrator does an excellent job with this and made me feel like I was sitting right there next to Melinek watching everything unfold.
