The Winter Garden audiobook is an interesting story. It's about a woman who loses her son in the Iraq War and the family has to come to terms with that reality. The protagonist, Iris, is a single mother who works for the CIA during the day and can't sleep at night because of all the thoughts of her son coming back to haunt her. One night, she takes some Ambien in attempt to fall asleep but she starts having visions of her son himself. She also realizes he's been helping her while she's been sleeping by taking care of his siblings while they were asleep as well.
Imagine a place where there is nothing but snow. No roads, no living creatures. It's like a planet in and of itself - an isolated island inhabited by the most fascinating and strange people you'll ever meet. From the first sentence, I was hooked and thoroughly enjoyed this book. If you're looking for something fast-paced, thrilling, and suspenseful, then Winter Garden is a must read!
The audiobook version of Winter Garden is narrated by Susan Ericksen, who is a relative newcomer to the industry, but she has proven herself to be an exceptionally talented narrator. She has a lovely voice and brings each character's personality and emotions to life with just the right amount of nuance. I like her voice so much that I enjoy listening to her narrate other novels, even though they're not recorded by HarperAudio.
