Gary Rodriguez Donald Goines was born in Houston, Texas on April 8th, 1938. He died on the 14th of November 1985. He was a black author from the late 1960s to mid-1980's and is considered as one of the most influential authors in the urban fiction genre. His writing had a lot to do with his sexual relations with prostitutes and what he saw as his life's mission to provide for them and their families.

After being unfairly incarcerated, Gary Rodriguez is sent to the worst of all possible places: a maximum security prison. There he meets Donald Goines, a fellow prisoner and author of the book that gave him his new identity: "Whoreson." Gary tells his story as if he were telling a letter to his dead mother. He doesn't spare details and lets you hear what it's like to be black in New York in the early 70s.

Gary Rodriguez Donald Goines was born in a small town in Texas, and he grew up to be a pimp. He was different though; he was the first black pimp in Houston. He had three rules: "Never break the law; never steal from your own people; never lie." As he made money, he bought back his mother's house from the landlord and set up a small business. He also invested in real estate and began to deal drugs outside of the United States of America.

Gary Rodriguez's novel is a fictionalized account of the life of Donald Goines. The author, Gary Rodriguez, and his best friend, George Jackson Jr., came up with the idea to base their story on Goines' real-life exploits after overhearing an old man tell an anecdote about him.

Whoreson: The Story of a Ghetto Pimp is a 1973 crime novel written by Donald Goines and published by Louisiana State University Press. Taking cues from his former life as a pimp, he makes elaborate plans to take down his entire criminal enterprise and retire in style.
