When I Lay My Isaac Down Free Audiobook Download by Carol Kent
Carol Kent was a very special nurse, one who loved the life of her patients and helped them to survive. This is the story that brought her to fame and made her an audiobook star.
Carol Kent is a writer of many other books fighting for the right to equality in the midst of an oppressive society. Isaac is a slave and has been beaten, abused, and taken away from his family without any warning or consent. The story takes place in Mississippi during the early 1800's after the American Revolution, so life is still very difficult for people who aren't white or wealthy. Isaac escapes to freedom, but then he learns that there are consequences to being on the run.
This is a beautiful and sad story about the love between a father and his son. The father wants to protect his son and sacrifices everything just to keep him alive. They live in a war-torn country where their neighbors are not friendly or welcoming, so they are afraid when they need to travel. One night their lives change forever, but it is up to Isaac to learn what this change means and whether he will survive it.
Carol Kent wrote When I Lay My Isaac Down as a protest against the death of her son, Isaac. In this book, she tells the story of how she was looking forward to celebrating his birthday and one day he became ill. He passed away and as a result, Carol lost any joy in life during that time. As soon as she was able to grieve for her son, she began writing about him in order to express her gratitude for his life and what he meant to her family.
Lenny's mom has told him that Isaac will be gone forever, but Lenny knows better. One day his dad is driving a van and selling all of the cars he loved most to make enough money to buy Isaac back. Lenny goes up in the attic and gets a box of old things including his father's old hunting knife. As he looks at it, he starts to imagine what his dad did with it - how many times he had killed deer with it, how many wild turkeys he had taken with it, how many rodents those sharp teeth had caught. And then Lenny realizes that the knife is still there because Lenny is holding it tightly when he falls asleep that night.
Carol Kent is an award-winning author who has written about three dozen books. Her most famous book, “When I Lay My Isaac Down” was made into a movie of the same title in 1961.
