In the beginning of the story, Pastor Paul separates from his family and moves in with Trudy. He is struggling with his faith and feelings for Trudy and a sense that God is about to take away what he loves most which is her. The story gets off to a fast start but slows down for some time when Pastor Paul has two small children and doesn't have the means to care for them. This part never gets dull or boring however because it's filled with heart wrenching moments.
