The Street is a novel about two African-American women who are taken into custody. They have to wear pink sweaters in the jail because they're both prostitutes and they have to be kept separate. It's a story of redemption and hope, but also of the hardships that come with being an outsider in a white America where you need protection like never before.

Danielle Deadwyler has a splashling voice that is perfect for narrating. She also does a good job of conveying the characters emotions, especially in scenes where they are on the verge of exploding with emotion. Although she doesn't do a bad job, she has a much different style than other audiobook readers I've listened to.

The Street is a novel by Ann Petry that follows the lives of two young people from Harlem who have had different upbringings. One is white, the other black.

"It would be a mistake to think that the story of The Street is just about its two central characters, Jewel and Manfred. One-third of the book is dedicated to the citizens of the fictional city of Tom: their fears and desires, the affectations and prejudices that define them."
