The Signature of All Things: A Novel Free Audiobook Download by Elizabeth Gilbert

The Signature of All Things is a beautiful novel about how we find hope in our darkest moments, about how love and happiness are two sides of the same coin. The book tells the story of an unnamed narrator who flees her old life in New York to follow her dream - she wants to write a book. She makes the difficult decision of packing up everything she owns and driving across the country with her dog, Daisy. Gilbert explores self-discovery through the lens of this woman's journey, exploring themes such as faith, love, marriage and family.

Set in the year 1832, The Signature of All Things is the story of Esther Greenwood and her adopted son August as they struggle to find their place in a world where everything is going wrong. When Esther meets a charismatic peddler, she realizes that she has found her way out of debt and into a new life in America. She does not anticipate that bringing her son into this new life will be quite so difficult.

This is a book about messy, beautiful lives. It's about the pursuit of happiness and the ways we get from point A to point B. As the narrator Juliet Stevenson puts it in her wonderful performance, "We are all trying to find happiness. It might take us someplace unexpected." That's what makes this book so compelling.

Juliet Stevenson narrates all of the audio tracks of Elizabeth Gilbert's novel. Some of the audio tracks are common to the book like, "The Note," and others are made for audiobook consumption, like, "The Full-Time Job." Even when she doesn't read her own words, it is really easy to tell that she is a master at the craft.

The Signature of All Things is an exploration into the impact that family, work, love and identity have on three generations in America. Three sisters, two of which are adopted, share a very complicated relationship with their parents and grandparents. This novel follows each generation as they struggle with the natural desire to keep their family together using any means necessary while they also try to find themselves during what can only be described as a challenging time period following the war.

"The Signature of All Things doubles as a memoir and a philosophical treatise, in which author Elizabeth Gilbert reflects on the course of her life from her childhood in the suburbs of Cleveland to her unusual career choices."
