The Revolution of Marina M.: A Novel Free Audiobook Download by Janet Fitch
In her novel, Janet Fitch tells the story of Marina M., a young woman who sets out to change the world by way of the revolution. Marina's parents are scientists on the brink of discovering how to make mass amounts of pollution disappear with enough research and funding. Unfortunately, Marina's mother dies before finding a way to make this happen. As she is trying to cope with her mother's death, she learns that there are people living in communities who haven't been affected by pollution. These people are not able to live healthy lives because they have been isolated from society and have become isolated from themselves as well without any information about their history or culture. These people have no idea what's going on in the world around them and they don't even know that it's wrong for them to be living like this when everyone else is struggling with pollution. Using information that she gets from these people and with some help from her father, she attempts to free these people from the very thing that has made their life so challenging while still preserving his research and knowledge.
Marina M. has never felt like she belonged to anything in her life. Her parents go back and forth between being there for her and completely ignoring her. All of Marina's friends are so-called popular people who have other friends, but Marina doesn't have anyone. Finally, one day at school a girl introduces her to Marina M. After some time, the two realize that they have more in common than either of them could have imagined.
Marina M. is a teenage girl in Russia whose life consists of trivial, frivolous things like boys, dancing, and shopping. She has no aspirations to go further than high school and move on to university. All that changes when she meets Marina V., a woman who shows her the world outside of Russia's borders.
Marina M. was a devoted revolutionary, one of the few people who were willing to put their lives on the line in hopes of forming a better and more just society. She came from a privileged family, but eventually she realized that there was too much wrong with her life and so she left her family behind to travel across the world, even though making such a move would risk imprisonment or death. Marina found herself in New York City where she had an affair with Victor, who was married; at first believing that he loved her more than his wife and then later discovering that he was merely using her for sex. Through this type of betrayal, Marina searches for a sense of truth about what it means to be human and finds herself rebelling against all the societal norms that are forced on her
Marina M. is an expert at moving from one life to another—sometimes in the same day. Her professional identity as a tough-faced woman in a Texas trailer park is all that she has, but then her husband leaves her for a younger woman and Marina's world comes crashing down. As she struggles to rebuild herself, a plan forms: She will escape her life and reinvent herself as someone who has never existed before--a totally different person--in order to find happiness. But the rules of Marina's new game are less familiar than she expects, and it takes everything in her power to keep up with them.
