This was an amazing audiobook, one of the best I've ever listened to. The book is about a girl named Alix who must fight her way to safety in a world overthrown by witches. It's set on Earth after humans have been extinct for a while and there are now witches who rule all of the land. Alix, as well as other humans, are all that's left.

Gabra Zackman tells the story of her grandmother's life in the North Carolina mountains, who was once a powerful witch but now is a doddering old woman. Her granddaughter, Alix, has always felt an affinity with her grandmother and wishes she had lived long enough to teach her. But when Alix starts noticing that the people around her are getting sicker and dying off faster, she realizes that the witches may hold the answer.
