This is a beautiful, poignant novel about a young boy whose parents immigrate from India to the US and name him "Anjali" in an attempt to assimilate into their new country. This book chronicles his family's frustrations with their new life as well as his relationship with the "old world" versions of his parents. It's lovely, touching, and bittersweet.

The Namesake is a novel about an Indian-American family living in America. It tells the story of how their lives change when their son's baby is born and names him Gogol, which they decide means "from the country." The novel explores themes such as identity, belonging, and ideas of home.

The Namesake is a story of a woman and her family. The woman's father was an American man who met and fell in love with a Bengali woman while he was living in India. She brought him back with her to the US where they had two children. When the children were grown up and wanted to know about their heritage, the father passed on to them his name, which is their last name, as well as their Indian heritage.

Many of the characters in this story live difficult lives. The main character, Gogol, has a difficult and unhappy childhood with constant hunger and poverty. His mother had to work day and night to provide for her son, his siblings and their mother. After she dies, Gogol finds solace in his father's stories which make up the backbone of his life.

A premature daughter of immigrants living in the United States, is forced to spend her summers with her father in his ancestral land. The Namesake is a story of longing and being lost that so poignantly captures the heart.

The Namesake is a heart wrenching and beautiful story about an Indian family, their past, and the memory of their son. The narrator does a great job.
