"The Moving Finger" is a Miss Marple Mystery. It was the last book Agatha Christie wrote and published, and it is her most famous novel. A letter from an old girlfriend with a secret about the protagonist's past sends Miss Marple on a search for truth to stop a blackmailer from getting his hands on the secret. This story is set in 1924 and features the first ever appearance of Christie's famous detective, Miss Marple.

Miss Marple is a retiring spinster who lives in a small English village. The murder revolves around the disappearance of the circus owner's brother, who turns up dead in a field on the outskirts of town. The police are investigating, but they have left the case to Miss Marple and her assistant, Mrs. Sheddon-Smith, with whom she spends most days at their country home discussing the crime while they enjoy an occasional game of bridge.

Miss Marple is found on the lookout in front of a mirror in her bedroom. She's not sure what she is doing, but it frightens her to see these new features and she can't stop looking at herself. As soon as she leaves the room, her two friends appear and tell her that someone will be coming to take care of everything. In the meantime, they come back with a bottle of medicine for Miss Marple to help her sleep. The rest of the book revolves around who killed Mrs. Hayter with a poisoned needle and why?
