"I enjoyed this book, even though it was a little too dark and twisted for me. I found the narrator's voice pleasant to listen to and she captured each character's voice well."

The Marsh King's Daughter is a book about a young woman named Cimorene who volunteers to become the marsh king's daughter so that she can observe spiders through the magic of a book. The story follows the protagonist as she deals with new emotions and challenges while trying to meet her father's expectations of perfection.

When the Marsh King's daughter was just a little girl, her father told her a story of an ancient queen who ruled over magical marsh lands and young princesses. The queen had been cursed by an evil witch into giving birth to thousands of daughters and all but one of them did not survive. But that wasn't all the Marsh King told his daughter; he also gave her a clue about what had happened to this last missing daughter - a clue that would lead her to uncovering the town's true history in order to save their land from the greedy hands of outsiders.

This is one of the best audiobooks I've ever heard. An escaped slave, a darkly handsome man-at-arms, and a sprite of a girl are all in pursuit of the same thing: revenge. But this is neither fairy tale nor fantasy; it's gritty, true-to-life medieval action.

"The Marsh King's Daughter" is a beautifully told story of love and sacrifice. The main character, Lanore, is kidnapped away from her home in 17th century France and put to work on her great-uncle's farm as a servant. She eventually becomes the apprentice of a master herbalist who teaches her about the healing plants around them and offers to help free their village from religious domination. He also reveals something shocking: she's actually the daughter of the monarch of all the marshes in the area. "The Marsh King's Daughter" recounts Lanore's story with extraordinary detail, giving readers a window into 17th century France while teaching them how to grow herbs and use their medicinal purposes.

The Marsh King's Daughter is a fairy tale classic that was first published in 1845. Along with The Princess and the Pea, it is one of the most well-known stories in the world.
