Allen Eskens is a 15 year old boy who has been receiving threatening letters from a kidnapper. One of the letters says "you should know that I will only stop when you're dead." Allen's parents take him to stay with their cousin in Alaska, where he learns to hunt for food at the age of 11. He moves back to his hometown when he graduates, and has a lot going on. He goes to college, joins the army, and then takes a girlfriend. But the bad guy is still coming after him.
