The Last Time I Saw Her: A Novel Free Audiobook Download by Karen Robards
When I was twelve, my dad died. That day changed everything for me. My mom and I moved to a small town in Minnesota where my dad used to buy his hunting land. We had left behind a life of wealth and privilege and now we were buying property out of our savings
The Last Time I Saw Her is a novel that is written in the form of letters to a friend. The protagonist, Amanda, has sent her best friend, Jennifer, a letter every day for nearly two years. Each letter chronicles her life, and includes sections of personal thoughts and feelings. She is currently living with two men who are very different from one another: the first is wealthy and well-spoken; the second is rough around the edges and working class. In the beginning of their relationship, Amanda dearly loved both men.
Ann Marie Lee is a local detective in L.A. She is assigned to investigate the murder of a high school classmate, Catherine Reichman. Her investigation uncovers Catherine's dark past, while also uncovering her own. This story explores the complicated relationship between mothers and daughters and a "gray area" that exists between the two.
When I was a little girl, I was told that stories can do anything. They can change the world. I still believe this to be true, although sadly, these days it seems like all too often our stories are only of tragedy and strife, and like some modern-day fairy tale where good always triumphs over evil. And what stories we've got! That's why it's so important to take time every now and then to find something different - something that is going to make you feel the way you used to make yourself feel when you were just a kid, when everything felt possible.
Ann Marie Lee is a single mother with two kids, one thriving and the other struggling. She's in no place to be picking up and moving somewhere new, but she knows she has to if her daughter is going to have a chance at a better life. While Ann Marie Lee is heading out of town, her daughter drowns in the pool. As Ann Marie Lee grieves for her daughter's death, she begins to reflect on what she could have done differently.
In her new AudioBook, Karen Robards does a marvelous job of telling the story from multiple perspectives. This is not an easy task as each one is so different from the other. Her narrator does a great job of making their voice different and distinct to make it easy to keep track between them while they are listening. The audio book was so enjoyable that I went ahead and bought the paperback version as well, just to read it again in the future!
