The Last Refuge: A Dewey Andreas Novel Free Audiobook Download by Ben Coes

Author Ben Coes has written a horror novel about the paranormal, featuring protagonist Dewey Andreas' quest for his missing brother. Toward the end of the book we realize that the story is actually a sort of prequel to another book by Coes - The Peculiar Adventures of Benjamin August. The audiobook was narrated by Peter Hermann and, although primarily an audio book for children, it is short and suspenseful enough to keep adult listeners entertained as well.

The Last Refuge is a novel divided into three main parts by the death of Dewey Andreas and the author's exploration of his life. Each chapter/part starts with a quote from Dewey as well as a few facts about his life, such as how many books he wrote or how many birds he saw.

Ben Coes narrates the story of Dewey Andreas and his latest adventure in the Last Refuge, a fantasy world he created as a child. Dewey creates a beautiful land where his mom is still alive and he has never left. When his mother dies and he is forced to leave, he sets out on an adventure to find her. The audiobook features voice-over from Peter Hermann who also provides narration for Game of Thrones, Sherlock Holmes, and Supernatural

It was one of those days when the air felt like it was scorching, like fire and ice were frozen in a super-hot liquid. There was no breeze to speak of and the heat was oppressive, left behind by a summer storm that had passed through just hours ago.

"I've been thinking about the title," Dewey says. "The last refuge. As in, what's left when you're done fighting? The last place that you'll find comfort?"

In the novel, The Last Refuge: A Dewey Andreas Novel by Ben Coes, the protagonist is a private detective named Dewey. He is hired to find out about a "mystery woman" who goes by the name of "Ms. X". While following her, he discovers that there is much more going on than meets the eye.
