The Hunt for Red October isn't a typical Tom Clancy story. Instead of the CIA and its clandestine operations, this story is about a U.S. Navy sub skipper who's on an ill-fated mission with his crew. When I taught Tom Clancy's Red October to my students, I found that they liked the story, but they had a difficult time visualizing it. Reading the book helped them understand the plot, but the audio version really helped them visualize the scene. They could hear the sounds of setting, characters speaking and different events unfolding, which made it easier for them to get into the story.
