The Hangman Free Audiobook Download by Louise Penny

This audiobook is a murder mystery with a twist. The protagonist, Armand Gamache, is the head of the Canadian police force and he's investigating a crime that seems eerily familiar. However, it soon becomes apparent that the accused, Ruthie St. Pierre, doesn't fit the profile of a killer.

A hefty hangman's noose, thick with black cord and frayed from the weight of previous victims, dangles from the beam of a dusty barn ceiling. As he stands silent in the dim light, his thoughts drift back to what might have been--a normal childhood, a wife and children, a happy life--rather than to the reality of an empty future awaiting him.

'Robert Bathurst' has narrated the audio book, which is available on Audible. He has an extensive list of narration credits and he won the 2009 Audio Book Award in Fiction for his work in 'The Hangman'. He has also been nominated for a 2012 Audiobook Award in category Best Narration.

DCI Gamache is a retired British soldier and expert in the art of interrogation. He has been called upon by the homicide squad in Three Pines, Quebec to help with an ongoing investigation. There are six victims and each one was strangled with a hangman's noose. The case will last several months with twists and turns including murderers, corrupt officials, and a member of the community who hides many secrets from its citizens.

At the beginning of "The Hangman," Chief Inspector Gamache and his team are gathered in a special meeting room within the Quincunx, an old church building that they've been using as the main headquarters of their crime-fighting operation. The team is desperately searching for a killer who's been striking members of their group, leaving clusters of red roses by their bedsides with messages about love. A new case is announced at the start - a suicide by hanging.
