The Good House Free Audiobook Download by Tananarive Due
A home in the suburbs, surrounded by leafy trees, neat lawns and well-kept houses. A house with a large family - a mother, father, three children and a dog. But something is off - something always feels off with this family; there isn't any joy or laughter in their lives as they struggle to keep things together. And then one day the youngest child's bike is stolen - it was just lying on the street with no lock or anything to protect it...
This is the first book in a series of five, where the main character is a detective and family man named Walter Murry, who loses his wife in a house fire. After she's gone he learns that he has to take care of her two kids and completely rebuilds their home on the same lot they were living on. This audiobook can be downloaded from Audible.
In the story, a little African-American girl named Nicole (nicknamed "T") lives in a society of people who are not made-up but instead have their natural skin color. T is always excited when she and her mother hear "a new white person" but that excitement changes when they start to see the white people as animals, rather then humans.
No one would choose to stay in a place that is a constant reminder of their own past. But that's exactly what happens for the protagonist, Cora. In the aftermath of a personal tragedy, she wanders through life feeling numb, unable to feel anything at all. It was only when her father died and left her his house that she was able to find some semblance of happiness-and finally start healing from the horrors of her past.
One of the best audiobooks that I've come across, [The Good House] is a compelling story about a family torn apart and the efforts they do to repair their broken relationship in the end. I found it very interesting to hear all of the twists and turns that occurred in this book with an audible narrator reading it.
The Good House tells the story of a mixed family of black and white people in a 1950s suburb. The couple, who are new to town, move into an old house that has been plagued by racism for generations, even though the home is considered to be one of the most expensive homes in town.
