Captain Michael Prichard is a detective for the New York City Police Department with a problem. It turns out that she has been kidnapped by a gang of grave robbers and it's up to Captain Michael Prichard to save her life.
With only three people in the Big Apple, detectives Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin are always busy. When a beautiful blonde walks into their studio apartment, claiming that her safe has been stolen and she needs to consult with them, they take her up on the offer of lunch at a nearby cafe. He comes across an abandoned house with a doorbell that rings anytime someone presses it. This happens enough for him to believe there has to be something going on with the house. As he investigates, he discovers that there's not just one doorbell ringing, but many, and every time someone presses them, they die from poison gas that is released from the bell's wire!
