There are many great books in Clive Cussler's long and distinguished series featuring protagonist Dirk Pitt - but The Cutthroat is my personal favorite, and this audiobook is a must-buy for any fan of the series. Scott Brick's masterful narration brings to life both the characters and the story.

Scott Brick captures the listener's attention with a single sentence that starts off in one voice and then changes to another. In addition, he is able to create many different voices for the characters by simply emphasizing certain words within sentences. When he does this, there is always a noticeable shift in his tone, which helps the reader follow along with each character's perspective.

In the Cutthroat, Justin Scott Clive Cussler paints a macabre picture of a world gone wrong. To be alive during the apocalypse is to live in fear and to watch your family die. The novel's protagonist, Dirk Pitt, also known as "The One," must save his family from the clutches of a ruthless terrorist. As they run for their lives from the zombie-like creatures called Slugs, he must face his past in order to stay alive.

Scott Brick is the narrator to this audiobook and does a terrific job. His narration is clear and his voice sounds great. He has an awesome southern accent which made it easy for me to connect with this story. The Cutthroat is an intense thriller that dives into the personal lives of a group of people who are in deep trouble, with no clue how to get out of it. They find themselves in the midst of a major conspiracy, one that they thought they would never be able to get away from, much less solve, but here's the kicker--there's a lot more going on than they know...

The Cutthroat is a true story of an ocean treasure hunt in the late 1800s. The tale unfolds when Nils Stem, a Swedish sea captain and his crew are looking for lost gold from the wreck of the Flying Enterprise, a steamer ship that sank in 1876 with $10 million in gold aboard. The treasure hunters discover an abandoned island and from there it is not long before they find themselves fighting cutthroat pirates who have staked their claim on this island.

One of my favorite authors is [Justin Scott Clive Cussler], and one of the most interesting series he has written is his NUMA Files, which are crime novels, usually with a mystery at its centre. The Cutthroat, the first book in this series, is a great audiobook, narrated by [Scott Brick] who is equally good as playing Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan or Lee Child's Reacher. Like Clancy's books, there are lots of fast cars and action in this book too!
