The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a detective story about Christopher, who uses logic and reason to solve crimes that happen in his neighborhood. The story has real life lessons and stories that teach children how they can help their parents, and be more independent to take care of themselves.
In the novel, Christopher introduces us to his son, who loves detective stories and is obsessed with "The Hound of the Baskervilles" by Arthur Conan Doyle. He comes across a murder in progress when he meets an abandoned dog who follows him home. The boy becomes convinced that the dog, who has no tail and is light-colored, is Sherlock Holmes. Christopher defends his theory, but as the investigation continues he realizes that there are many things about his son's life and behavior that have made it difficult for him to relate to other people.
He has spent his whole life in a single room. He knows the names and colors of all the numbered tiles on the floor, he can tell you exactly how many steps are between any two points in his home. But one day he sees a dog in the night-time. This is not just any ordinary book. It's a story about Christopher, an unusual boy who has some extraordinary adventures, told through Christopher's unique point of view as he investigates what really happened to his neighbor's dog.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a wonderfully written novel that follows Christopher Boone and his journey through trying to solve the mystery of how his neighbour's dog got mutilated. Christopher has Asperger's syndrome and so he thinks in a very linear fashion, which can be frustrating at times but is also what makes him so interesting. His essays are fascinating because they are so detailed and he really thought out every single aspect of every sentence.
In a world where justice is difficult - and not always available, Christopher Boone believes that the key to understanding the world is math. He's brilliant at math, in fact. So when Christopher reveals a startling ability to solve any problem, he becomes a local hero. He wants nothing more than to apply his genius to help catch a killer, but instead he finds himself in yet another mystery, this time involving the death of a dog.
