Arnold's life is a difficult struggle between living as an Indian and living as an American. In this struggle, he often questions his identity as much as he does the legitimacy of this society or any society for that matter.

This is a piece of fiction about an Indian boy named Junior, who lives on the Spokane Indian Reservation. He starts school in the third grade and meets a girl named Annie. They find out that she has never had her hair cut and she is around their age so they decide to give her a home-cut. Junior later learns that Annie's mom abandoned her at the reservation and that this was why Annie never fell in love with boys.

Sherman Alexie is an American author, poet and filmmaker known for speaking out about social injustice. His first novel, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian won the National Book Award for Young People's Literature in 2007.
