Sword of Kings: A Novel Free Audiobook Download by Bernard Cornwell

Sword of Kings: A Novel is a historical fiction novel told through the eyes of Uhtred, a young Viking who must fight to reclaim his ancestral lands. This detailed and dramatic story takes place in England as it's invaded by Danish Vikings during the reign of King Alfred.

Sword of Kings is the first of Bernard Cornwell's Arthurian novels. It is built around the legendary Battle of Camlann, in which our protagonist, 'Artorius Rex', slays the great evil king, Mordred. The novel establishes the nature of the eternal rivalry between King Arthur and his half-sister/queen, Morgan le Fay; also how Arthur's enemies were often a result of his own family tree

The general knows he is dying, but there is still fighting to be done. The last hope for England lies in the hands of a young Welshman, Arthur. Can Arthur take up his sword and defend the land? Or will the invaders conquer before he has a chance?

Sword of Kings: A Novel is a part of the Warlord series by Bernard Cornwell. In this book, a group of Vikings take over England in the year 31 AD. The Saxons are pushed far south, and into Cornwall, where they live as slaves to the Vikings. As time goes on, Lady Brita and her family learn more about what is happening around them and begin plotting to regain control of their land and country.

The Sword of Kings is a life changing story. The writing is excellent and the plot is spellbinding. It's hard not to put this book down once you start listening. You'll be drawn in by the plot, the characters and the beauty of Cornwell's prose. The audiobook was narrated by Matt Bates who made it a wonderful experience.

The novel opens with the scene of a small band of medieval soldiers, including a young boy and his father, surrounded by enemies on all sides. They are under siege by the invading Danes, who have captured them and intend to behead the father. The soldiers take turns fighting off the Danes while attempting to talk their way out of their situation. As they are talking, one of them is stabbed in the back by an enemy soldier. When he is unable to fight off the attackers, they decapitate him and leave him on the ground bleeding out as his son watches in horror.
