Summer and the City Free Audiobook Download by Candace Bushnell
This audiobook is set in NYC during the year 1978. This book is about a girl who was born and raised in a small farm town in Iowa. She just graduated college and can't find a job. Summer moves to NYC to try and figure out what she's going to do with her career, while living the life of an urban nomad.
Candace Bushnell, the author of "Sex and the City," released her first book, "Summer and the City." The story is told from Summer's point of view, who is a true New Yorker. The novel follows Summer as she faces obstacles at work (including writing a column for the New York Observer) while juggling her relationship with her boyfriend, Steve, who chose to stay in NYC because he loves it so much.
The book is narrated by Jenna Lamia, who is an interesting narrator because she sounds like a bratty middle schooler trying to sound sophisticated. I didn't enjoy the book as much as I thought I would because of this.
The story follows Fran, a newly divorced 39-year-old woman who moves to Manhattan with her 6-year-old daughter. She has been dreaming of having it all: the perfect job as a magazine writer, an apartment on the Upper East Side and a decent relationship. With little more than $500 in her bank account, she is determined to make this summer work. But living in Manhattan is not easy for the single mom and she soon realizes that she must learn to be patient if wants to succeed...
Despite the fact that she's the only member of her family who can't live without air conditioning, Candace Bushnell loves summertime. And for those readers who have been with her since Sex and the City, you'll be happy to know that there's a new entry in her long-running series that's just as entertaining and just as chic.
This audiobook is a short, fast-paced work of fiction that is more than just a story. It's an interesting guide to how New York City changes in the summertime. In addition to the narrator, you're also introduced to two characters: Bridget and Amanda. They are both struggling with their love lives and relationships in general but they each have different personalities. The audiobook has several elements that help to keep the reader entertained.
