Such a Quiet Place: A Novel Free Audiobook Download by Megan Miranda
The book opens with a young woman, Jenny, who is frantically trying to escape from a man who has just broken into her apartment. As she runs down the hall towards the front door, he chases after her and begs her not to leave him here alone. She is so close to escaping when the lights suddenly go out and she crashes through the glass door only to realize that she has been found by another man. When these two men turn on their flashlight, they spot Jenny and try to capture her for what seems to be an abduction. The only problem is that she does not run in terror but rather starts fighting back and beating them both up until they are unconscious, later taking off on a bike with all of their guns.
A young woman is both excited and terrified to embark on a journey with the youngest of her three children, Ramiro. As she waits for him in a small cafe in Mexico City, her son arrives with one-hundred thousand dollars in cash, long enough to fuel her whole life. The plan is simple: they'll stop at either Veracruz or Tijuana, where he'll continue his journey while she stays in Mexico City. She's merely along for the ride, and she doesn't have time to think about how things will go when everything turns out as planned.
The story is told from multiple points of view, which helps to better understand the characters. The narrator does a great job at creating distinct voices for each character.
Studs Terkel would be proud (or at least, he's an influence) as this work is a series of interviews with over 100 people experiencing grief. Each person shares their story of loss in a seperate chapter, which is complemented by photographs that accompany the stories. This book may be difficult to read because of the heavy subject matter but the overall result is worth the read.
This is a novel that will keep you entertained, it has themes of romance, mystery and suspense. This book is narrated in first person present tense. The narrator tells the story from the perspective of a character named Laura.
