Starting this book was a bit of dread- the narrator, Amanda Ronconi, is so inflexible in her pronunciation that it's difficult to understand even when listening at a normal speed. The story itself wasn't bad - I liked the idea of sea serpents and sprinkles (yes) being friends - but the narrator was so distracting that it took me completely away from enjoying the story.

The main character, Mariah, has just lost her mom to cancer and she's struggling to keep her father afloat at home. Mariah's new friend, Hailey, is living with her grandparents as her parents are on the run from someone who wants to hurt them. This book was heartbreaking for me and I enjoyed it immensely!
