Small Pleasures: A Novel Free Audiobook Download by Clare Chambers

She is no stranger to the outside world. She grew up in a family who had a tradition of preppers, with her father and grandfather being particularly notorious among the small town's residents for their extensive weaponry and survival knowledge. What she doesn't know, however, is just how frail and delicate life can be when it comes to handling even the simplest of tasks due to her own personal struggles agaist chronic pain. Now, as an adult, she has been given an opportunity that would bring joy and peace in many ways throughout her life if only she could figure out how to handle it...but will she be able to do so without paying too much in return?

The narrator brings Clare's inner dialogue to life. The audiobook is mostly relevant to the chapters and is not an abridged version of the book; there are no narrative pauses or gaps.

Karen Cass has narrated Clare Chambers's audiobook of Small Pleasures, and she does a fantastic job. She is able to bring the characters to life, really giving them their own voice. Each character had a distinctive tone, and they were also able to change their tone or mood depending on who they were talking to. I'm so glad I got this book as an audiobook because it was just that much more enjoyable.

"Small Pleasures" follows the life of a woman named Claire Chambers. The novel begins with Claire moving to the picturesque island of St. Mary's in order to start her new life as a counsellor. With her husband dead, she longs for something different and finds it in St. Mary's beauty and peace. She meets up with other people who are also feeling lost and alone, which helps Claire feel less lonely and more at peace.

As a young girl, Clare Chambers could never have predicted that the day would come when she would be on the verge of divorce from her husband, Andrew. She had loved him dearly since their childhood together but he was unhappy with their life and wanted to start a new one elsewhere. She told him it was important to stay in their home because what they lived was an important legacy for future generations, but deep down she knew his decision to leave meant she would need to find a way to support herself and her young daughter. And so begins Small Pleasures: A Novel by Clare Chambers, narrated by Karen Cass.
