Slewfoot: A Tale of Bewitchery Free Audiobook Download by Brom

"Beware of the snow beast, my son," she said. "It has an icy breath and stings with its cold tongue."

In the author's introduction, Brom explains how he has always loved creating new and terrifying things. The idea of the Slewfoot was started in a dream, but was given life through Brom's imagination. In this story, there is an unexplained and sudden storm that leaves animals noxious and people in fear. All the animals get sick or die from this storm, except for one - Slewfoot. After being saved by a boy named Jake from being taken away by the authorities, Slewfoot finds his way to Jake's home where he gets to know Jake's family and learns about their dark secrets.

Brom's work, like all of his writings, is evocative on many levels, as well as thoroughly entertaining. The story follows a young man from the Scottish Highlands who comes across a strange woman carrying a large bag who insists that she is looking for a lost sheep when he first meets her. They travel together across Scotland and Northern England and ultimately find the sheep in the North Pole.

One day while walking in the forest, Brom encountered a young girl who had been attacked by a witch. He helped her and saved her life. The next day, the witch came back for revenge. This time Brom was prepared, but the witch still managed to escape with his eyes.

"But to be hurt--to be wounded--to feel pain, is a thing so terrible, so overwhelming, that humankind turns away from it in horror and disbelief." The most important character in this story is the one who is not allowed to feel. This narrator is not given any power over her fate. When she finally feels emotion, her death seems like the only appropriate end for this young woman who has been deprived of what we all take for granted: life.

When the Warlock of Slewfoot, Brom, has to leave his home in order to avoid being killed by his enemies, he goes in search of a way to get back home. But all is not as it seems in this tale of magical mayhem.
