Tony Hillerman's story, Skeleton Man, is one of the author's best-loved stories. The book tells the story of a Navajo tribal policeman and his deputy, who try to solve the death of a man dressed as a skeleton who died in an abandoned mine. As they search for the murderer, they learn more about the history of the tribe and its roots in this area.

The Bone Man is a classic of the Leaphorn and Chee series, coming to us as it did before Hillerman's death in 2008. The story takes place in a remote Navajo community where a new guest comes looking for work. He's an anthropologist who has brought with him skeletal remains of someone who was long-dead. The visual appearance of the characters is also different from one another - the narrating character's appearance changes throughout the novel.
