Shelter: A Mickey Bolitar Novel Free Audiobook Download by Harlan Coben
Nick Podehl has a soothing voice and reads the novel with ease. It is clear that he really enjoys his work, which adds to the enjoyment of the listener. It is hard not to be drawn in by his performance and this was the case for me.
In Harlan Coben's newest novel, he has created a very different protagonist than most. Mickey Bolitar is not just a well-liked, rich kid, but he is also an ex-con who has lived on the streets and in jails his entire life. The reason that this makes him as unique as he is is because Mickey doesn't rely on his outward appearance to gain people's trust. He relies solely on the fact that he knows how to read people and gets things done when no one else can - he has been called the "consigliere" of his high school.
Shane has been living for over a year in hiding, waiting for the FBI to make their move. When D.C. arrives, he recognizes her straightaway - she's the one who rescued him that fateful night in April. What follows is an intense game of cat and mouse as they try to outwit each other while Shane is desperate to learn what happened to his sister - and why it seems everyone is targeting him now
As always, Harlan Coben is not only a master in penning suspenseful stories but also an excellent narrator. The story was very engaging and this was easily the best of his books so far - I never saw it coming and the plot twists were even more intense than usual.
Mickey Bolitar is always doing the wrong thing. He knows it, his friends know it and his new love interest knows it. But that's not going to stop him from taking a risk in order to get himself out of trouble this time. Mickey thinks he might have found the perfect solution when a case of mistaken identity lands him at an exclusive rehab facility for rich people. The only problem? It's run by a man who holds secrets of his own about the best way to commit fraud and swindle money off the wealthy--a man with ties to Mickey's deadly past
When I was just a little kid, my family moved to a small town in Pennsylvania. We were the first people of color to move into our housing development. Then we started getting threats. Mostly it was kids who said they were going to kill us when they saw that we were black and brown, but it got worse. A couple of months after we moved in, someone smashed our car window and left a big cross burning on the hood.
