A J. P. Beaumont Novel is the second novel in the Detective J.P. Beaumont series by J. A. Jance, which is narrated by ['J.R. Horne'] and published in 2008 by Recorded Books, Incorporated.

Second Watch is the first book in J.A. Jance's bestselling series of mystery novels with a female protagonist, Joanna Brady. It begins with the discovery of a body on the side of a rural road, later identified as the victim of a hit and run while driving home from work. On the way to identify the body, Joanna meets Sheriff Vic Deaver, who takes her to his crime scene and introduces her to murder. The story then becomes one of Joanna's investigation into who killed Victor and why, while trying to keep herself out of jail for her own murder conviction.

The main protagonist of this book is Lucy Patterson. When her husband is murdered and the police are unable to find the culprit, Lucy knows it was a personal attack on her and her family. She decides that she needs to do something about this herself and starts investigating what happened herself. This is not a book with any kind of mystery or suspense, but rather a woman's constant struggle with pain and surviving through difficult times.
