When Sylvie Lee left her husband and two children in China, she didn't know what she was getting herself into by journeying to America. She had no idea that learning English would be such a difficult process, nor did she understand the culture shock that awaited her.

In search of his missing daughter, Sam Wan returns to Hong Kong and joins a group of people who want to find the lost girl. The group includes Sam's ex-wife, their daughter, a detective from Hong Kong's police force, and expat journalist Angie Lin. Together, they start searching for Sylvie and eventually uncover a dark secret that has been hidden for decades.

Samantha Quan and Angela Lin's audiobook search for a missing girl named Sylvie Lee. They call in Caroline Mclaughlin to help them find her. This is an intense detective story that reminds us that even the most charismatic and intelligent among us can have dark secrets lurking about them.

The book is a story about the three daughters of a Taiwanese immigrant family living in Los Angeles, California. They are raised by their Pop Pop Lee after their mother suddenly disappears when they are young girls. The girls have to find their real mother and try to put together the pieces of who she was and what caused her to disappear.

Jean Kwok's novel, "Searching for Sylvie Lee", is a good example of how the author's Chinese heritage manifests in her writing. The protagonist, Darcy, is a self-described "white girl" and an American immigrant living in Hong Kong; the narrator is often speaking with the voice of a Chinese woman. For example, these lines from chapter 4: "the only reason he was going to no eat was because even though his mother had told him not to waste food on what he considered charitable endeavors or at least not if they didn't have enough to eat also added that sometimes when you're hungry you just can't help yourself."
