In the novel "Real Easy", the main character, Josie, is a teenage girl living with her mom in small town America when she's suddenly pulled out of school and whisked away to an elite academy in Europe. There, she meets some very interesting people from all over the world and learns that many members of society have been hidden from view by their parents. In addition to a thrilling story about finding oneself, Josie also discovers that there are forces at work that are trying to keep her from ever returning home again.
"I'm at the top of the stairs and I'm going to push her," she says, turning back to him. "She's going to kill you."
Mary Rutkoski's novel "Real Easy: A Novel" is a story about a girl named June who has multiple sets of eyes, each with a specific superpower. When she was 7 years old, her parents died in a car crash and she was left to be raised by her single mom. In high school, June falls in love with a boy named Josh. They have an intense relationship until he tells her he's going away to college and not coming back. She loses him soon after his departure when they break up and June is forced to let him go because she doesn't want him to be hurt again as she has done so many times before.
After the death of her parents, Kestrel escapes the life she knows on a farm with her doting older brother. She's not prepared for what awaits her at school, or how quickly her new friends try to figure out what little they do know about her. With much of their backstory still a mystery to her, she must rely on herself more than ever before.
Real Easy: A Novel tells the story of Siv, a young woman on the run after she is accused of murder. Her family's wealth was based on the human trade and if word gets out, there will be no more money for them. For most of her journey, she assumes she's safe, but then an unexpected twist in the story leads her to a new world where it's not so easy to figure out who your friends are.
