Rabbits: A Novel Free Audiobook Download by Terry Miles
In the opening chapter of Terry Miles' novel, the narrator is at an outside table in a diner. The narrator, who has tried to kill herself twice before, describes feeling like a piece of dry toast and being completely exhausted. She's just killing time because her father is serving her on a jury trial for breaking into his house. As she watches others come and go from that diner, she begins to realize that one of those people looks just like her mother.
This is a story about the life of a rabbit under the care of the narrator, who is his owner. The only thing different between them and other rabbits is that they have exceptionally long ears which make them stand out in the woods. Their daily lives are filled with routine, confinement, and boredom until one day they're freed into the woods. The narrator and her son quickly learn that they need to manage their new freedom if they want to survive. The novel has interesting content, but it can be difficult to follow at times because of its lack of clear narrative voice.
In this book, you get to meet a variety of bunnies, learn about their unique personalities and what it means to be a rabbit. You'll also find out about the different breeds and how some of them were hunted down by humans. Rabbits: A Novel also tells you how many rabbits are still left in the wild due to human hunting.
A sad tale of love, hope and sacrifice, Rabbits is an exquisitely moving and finely crafted coming-of-age story. With his hallmark warmth and humor, Miles gives us a multidimensional look at young people struggling to find themselves in the context of life's hardships.
This novel takes place in the summer of 1974 and is told by twelve-year old Marti who knew that living with her father would never work out and made a decision to leave.
