Physics in Mind: A Quantum View of the Brain Free Audiobook Download by Werner R. Loewenstein
Walter Dixon's narration of this physics book is quite good, but the content is quite dry. The author attempts to describe physical phenomena through easy-to-understand analogies, like how a rope that's too thin will fray and break. Dixon also does a very good job with the monologues for different characters in the book, which help create clear voice identities.
This is a great book to give to anyone interested in the mind, brain and consciousness. The author argues that there are many things we do not understand about how our brains work. However, there is a lack of understanding in physics as well. Loewenstein suggests that both fields have much to learn from each other.
In the mid-1980s, Werner R. Loewenstein published a book called "Physics in Mind: A Quantum View of the Brain," which he co-wrote with his colleague Alex P. M. Bickford from University College London. This book was an introduction to quantum physics for a general audience and includes chapters on macroscopic objects like people, atoms and molecules, but also particles such as photons and electrons. What is especially interesting about this book is that the authors write about how quantum physics can be applied to mental processes at the level of brain cells, which they refer to as neurons.
"The human brain is a quantum information processor" - for those who have never heard the phrase before, this might sound like a crazy statement, but it's completely true.
'Walter Dixon' narrates this audiobook and he makes the complex, technical text captivating. I felt like I was getting a personal tour of how the brain works, while at the same time, learning about quantum mechanics and neuroscience. To have both of these aspects made Physics in Mind a really interesting read for me.
I have to admit that I had no idea what to expect when I began the audiobook of Physics in Mind: A Quantum View of the Brain by Werner R. Loewenstein narrated by Walter Dixon. I was hooked from the beginning, not only by the perspective on how physics can explain human behavior, but about the narrator's ability to make such a topic into something entertaining and informative.
