The book is set in London, 1965. The main character, Eileen, is 29 years old and has two children with her husband, whom she still loves despite the fact that he cheated on her many times. She meets the beautiful girl who becomes her lover's lover but this love affair is not without challenges. Eileen tries to end it but the girls convinces her to let them continue to see each other because they are deeply in love with each other.

The narrator, Elle Newlands, is a woman who has just moved to Dublin with her daughter. She is not looking for a new lover but one day she meets Liam and falls in love. He quickly becomes her lover, first sexual partner, best friend, the person that she tells everything to and the person that she wants to marry. However, when she finds out that Liam is her daughter's father, things change between them and they become friends again.

Maggie O'farrell is a novelist. In her novel, My Lover's Lover, she tells the story of a woman who is searching for the love of her life in London's 1960s underground psychedelic scene. This audiobook was released by Random House Audio in 2009 and features Elle Newlands' narration.

My Lover's Lover tells the story of Ruth, a young academic with a promising career, who releases a book that sheds light on her affair with an older woman. This betrayal sends her lover into shame and depression, but Ruth is unable to release herself from the pain she feels.

This is the first book by Maggie O'Farrell that I have read and it was a great story. The writing style was different from what I am used to in terms of storytelling but it was interesting and I enjoyed listening to the audiobook version.

Elle Newlands is a beautiful and enigmatic woman who is loved by two men. The first is her long-term lover, Benjamin, whom she listened to in bed and drank wine with. Her second man was the man who killed her husband on their honeymoon and married her afterwards, Tom. Tom's marriage was a plot to get revenge but Elle never saw it coming, or even knew about it until years later when everything changed.
