For hundreds of years, cities circled the Earth on giant living rails, with citizens living in a world of sky scrapers and sky ships. But now the Rail is failing, and London has become a vast graveyard for its long-forgotten engines. For Tom Nabley, all this wreckage hides a mystery - who built the City of London and when? But as he investigates, Tom discovers that he must venture into the dark heart of the old city to find out who or what it was...

'Mortal Engines' is a book about the London underground, it tells the history of the city's infrastructure and how some people are trying to destroy it. This version includes an audiobook narrated by Barnaby Edwards.

The world is moving too fast. On the streets, in the skies, it's a struggle just to survive. 'The Smoke' is London's toxic fume-choked underworld, where deadly creatures roam and every citizen has their price. Thirteen-year-old Tom lives in the stacks of Whitechapel's vast public library, secretly cataloguing its infinite knowledge while avoiding detection. His life is a sedate one until he meets Hester Shaw - beautiful, determined and brave enough to break through The Smoke to reveal the city above. Together they'll uncover dark secrets that could change the course of history...

With the help of a mysterious man from the past, London's Mechanics have started building colossal creatures powered by the heat and smoke of Traction Cities. The cities move on vast wheels, crushing smaller towns and leaving devastation in their wake. One lucky family escapes to start a new life in the country where children learn about farming and animals by watching them grow... until one day, everything changes

This is the author of [Kaz] being read by a British voice actor named [Barnaby Edwards]. While this may seem like an odd choice, it actually works pretty well. This is because Reeve's writing is so fun and easy to follow that it's just as easy to listen to as it is to read. The narrator does a good job of adding in the accents for all the different characters, which is something many readers might not have noticed.
