Middle Passage Free Audiobook Download by Charles Johnson

The Middle Passage is the story of a slave who escapes from a slave ship and leads an uprising on the island of St. Croix. This was quite possibly the most harrowing and eye-opening audiobook I have ever listened to. When I finished listening, I felt like quitting my job so that I could devote myself to exposing injustices in other countries and communities.

Middle Passage is a powerful, moving account of African-American life in the years just before the Civil War by Charles Johnson. Alternating between narrative and poems, the author's prose brings to life the brutality of slavery and its lingering effects on black Americans from generation to generation.

In this audiobook, author Charles Johnson tells the story of Benjamin Franklin and his trip to France during the time of the American Revolution. While in France, Franklin witnessed many terrible atrocities committed by British soldiers on African slaves that were brought to America. This experience changed Franklin's views on slavery from a 'natural order' duty to an act of barbarism.

[Narrator Dion Graham] tells readers that this book is a horror story, but it's not going to scare you. He describes the events in fantastic detail and includes all of the characters' thoughts and reactions. This helps readers feel like they're right there with all of the people on board the Middle Passage.

The Middle Passage is a multi-layered narrative that chronicles the journey of an enslaved African named Clove through the intricate web of slavery and the way it shaped America. It takes place in 1839, during the antebellum period. The story begins with Clove arriving at the port of Philadelphia with six other enslaved Africans who were being sold to masters in the United States for rebellious slaves, or "bad niggers".

Narrated by Dion Graham, Middle Passage tells the story of three people escaping from slavery in America and their harrowing journey across the Atlantic on a slave ship. The reading is both heartbreaking and powerful.
