Lovely War Free Audiobook Download by Julie Berry

The narrator in this book, which is about a war where the soldiers are tasked with collecting eggs for their breakfast, was so good that I was riveted with every word. This audiobook is worth listening to because of the great narrator.

In the first book of a dark and twisty adult mystery series (check out the read-along for kids), young Private Harry Roan is sent to investigate an abandoned village in France, where he uncovers evidence of war crimes. As he tries to make sense of what's happening, he falls in love with a local woman. The story follows him as his path intersects with that of Julie Berry, the daughter of one of the villagers who has been living at the village since her family fled the war.

Julie Berry's debut novel, Lovely War, is the story of a woman's search for her father. Her father had been an important part of her life as a child but suddenly disappeared when she was sixteen. Now thirty-two, Julie has never found out what happened to him. In order to find out if he is still alive and to get answers, she becomes enmeshed in the criminal underground of London's East End - where her family once lived. The novel is told through the voices of all the characters that Julie meets during her journey from one side of London to the other.

The story follows the lives of a British family living in occupied France during World War II. When resistance fighter Adam is killed, the funeral draws attention from his family's French neighbors and their German overlords. The novel explores their experiences with love and loss using historical research to examine class, gender, and racial divisions during wartime.

When our main character 'Kounti' is just a young girl, war is all she's ever known. Her father, a famous healer and warrior in ancient Greece, taught her everything he knew about healing with flowers and herbs before sending her off to study. As Kounti grows up and starts to follow in his footsteps as a healer herself it becomes harder for her to reconcile how healing can help people when war seems like the greatest evil. After following Kounti's journey from childhood into adulthood, we

Julie Berry has written an amazing book about growing up in a dysfunctional family in her narration of Lovely War. She captures the essence of so much through her writing and how raw it is. This book is one that does not need to be read, but should be listened to.
