T. Jefferson Parker's Iron River is a great book with an unexpected ending. The book has mystery, adventure, and suspense throughout and it doesn't disappoint.

In this riveting, first-person narrative of a Utah family's struggle to survive the Great Depression and World War II, a resourceful mother begins smuggling ore from her hometown of Iron River into the Japanese-occupied territory where she is imprisoned.

This audio book is a story that focuses on the life of a man whose father was caught up in the Kansas State Penitentiary during the Great Depression. When his father died, he gets involved with an outlaw gang and is forced to leave his farm and head to California to join them. This novel takes place in 1949 and covers a period of ten years of this man's life.

Iron River is a novel of the Maletti family that went from being the richest, most powerful and feared family in Texas to the poorest, forgotten one. The story starts with the patriarch, Rocky, who earned his fortune as a geologist in Saudi Arabia. As he returns to Texas after 30 years of absence, he finds that his sons are not what they used to be and their once-promising future has fallen apart. His journey back home is a struggle not only for him but for all of them, especially his eldest son and presumed heir Gregorio.

"Iron River" is a suspenseful thriller about the murder of 3 girls that pulls you in with its gritty, realistic look at life in the rough world of prostitution. The narration is excellent with the voice being different for each character and each type of emotion conveyed to really make this novel an immersive read.
